My new job is also in the Upper East Side and only a 20 minute walk from my apartment which I think is absolutely fantastic. I’ll save a lot of money on transportation costs, and I’ll get a little bit of exercise. Win! This was the perfect week to start walking to work. It was warm and sunny every day this week. That blue sky has been a rare sight the last couple of months.

My Valentine bouquet posed in front of my window the next morning.

Another lovely Valentine’s Day. Nothing crazy or extravagant. But since I have someone who is sweet all year round, I don’t need anything extra on this rather odd holiday. He brought me home a bouquet of flowers and cooked me an incredible dinner. He made chicken cordon bleu, rice, and steamed broccoli. He also lit some candles for the ottoman/coffee table and watched “The Princess Bride” with me. He was even kind enough to pose in my apron for a Project 365 picture. I’m certainly a lucky girl.

For Valentine’s Day, I made my favorite boy red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. I made them from scratch WITHOUT an electric mixer. No easy feat. Yet they were fantastic, if I do say so myself. He is worth every granule of sugar.

I am slowly learning how to get around the outrageous expenses of living in the city. On Saturday, from 5:45 till 7:45, the Guggenheim is pay what you want! It was great. I put in $6 for the two of us, and we had two hours to look at the art. It’s such a cool museum too. You just keep walking in circles and the art doesn’t end!

Our wild and crazy Friday night. We lounged around the apartment, until we decided to go hunt down a place called Milk and Cookies. Their website said they would be open until 11. We got there at 10:30 to find a locked door and different hours listed on the door. It said they closed at 10! We were so sad until the gentleman at the counter let us in to “warm up.” He ended up giving us a box of cookies. We had a coupon for a baker’s dozen, but he gave us more than that. This was the hasty picture I took of their window display. We took our cookies to a nearby Starbucks. It was our only option other than a bar, sadly. We both ordered milk and ate some of our cookies, like the old people we are.

I got a job! Again! I was offered a receptionist position at an animal hospital. Not my dream job, but I’m just looking for something to pay the bills while I chase down my dreams. I celebrated by taking it easy on Friday. I wandered around my neighborhood and found this taqueria. They had a lunch special with two tacos and a side salad. I got the chorizo tacos which were pretty legit. But that salad in the forefront of my picture. OH MY LORD! I’m not even a salad person, but I gobbled it up. I will definitely be returning there.

Not the best picture in the history of the world. But I never claimed to be Ansel Adams. It was so cold outside, and I took this while running across the street towards my subway station. I had gone to a writing group thing. It was not very successful at all for many reasons I am unwilling to get into right now. Mainly I just couldn’t focus. I thought it might be a nice way to release some stress, but I was just too tense.

After a very long day of applying, applying, applying to jobs, I made myself some Saffron tea, played last week’s Prairie Home Companion and worked on my mittens. It was calming and just what I needed to soothe my mind. I’m almost done with one mitten. It’s probably the most complicated thing I’ve knit, but I’m excited to be moving up in the world.

Another late night picture. It’s been rough being back on the job market, and I think I’ve gone a little bit crazy this week. But things are settling down.

My mom sent me a package of mail that she had received. She included this baseball angel in it. I guess the Mariner’s can use any support they can get.
