Travis and I went down to the Wall Street area to hang out with our friends Dawn and Richard. We had a Rock Band/pizza night. Travis came and met me at work. We figured we would pick up some beer at a corner store in the Wall St. area. How wrong we were. It’s so desolate there at night. It took us a solid 20 minutes of wandering around the crooked, winding streets before we found a pharmacy with a sad selection of Budweiser, 40s, or Coronas. The choice was easy. Anyways, we passed the NYSE which isn’t as big as you’d think.

Rock Band 3 arrives! Travis and I start a garage band called “Youth in Asia.” That’s me in front with Travis to my left. I am quite partial to drums, but I am also a great lead singer.

It was rainy and gloomy in New York on this day, which matched my mood. I was definitely still feeling mopey. I wasn’t going to let myself wallow for very long, but I let myself have the day.

This was a sad day for me, and therefore no exciting picture, my apologies. On the previous day, I had my second interview with the meetup.com people. It went really well, and I was so sure I had it. Then, on this evening, I got the e-mail that said that they didn’t think I was right for the position. Boyfriend was a good sport in comforting me, but I was severely disappointed. I still don’t understand how I didn’t get the job. I have never not gotten hired after an interview. It was a huge blow. So before trudging off to bed, I took a picture of my beloved cowgirl boots. Unknowingly at the time, perhaps this was a subconscious gesture that I just have to put one foot in front of the other until I get to where I’m supposed to be. Wherever the hell that is.

Dexter Season 5!!! We watched the season 4 finale two nights earlier, and it was traumatic. I couldn’t sleep at all that night. After we watched it, I started noticing friends posting about it on facebook, and Travis overheard some people talking about it at a meeting he went to. I’m telling you, season 4 was really really rough. But so good!

I went to the Columbus Circle area to meet with a group called “Shut Up & Write.” The premise of the group is fairly obvious. We all meet at this tea/coffee place, introduce ourselves briefly, then write uninterrupted for an hour. It felt great to write, which isn’t something I have really made time for recently. So therapeutic. After I write, I feel like my brain is alive again.

Needless to say, we didn’t get out of bed until late Sunday morning. We meandered to my new favorite breakfast place: Viand’s. It’s only about a five minute walk, and they have it all: pancakes, eggs, omelets, french toast, COFFEE. After our greasy breakfast, we laid around in our dark apartment watching movies. “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” in particular.

“Hey Blinkin'”
“Did you say Abe Lincoln?”
“No, I said “HEY BLINKIN'”

A co-worker invited me to come see her boyfriend’s band play out in Brooklyn. Boyfriend and I made the hour commute in the name of adventure. After all, Brooklyn is a fun, happening place. Then, we were in Bushwick, a rather unsavory neighborhood in Brooklyn. The cafe we were at was pretty fun, and it was good to hang out with a co-worker, feel like I had a friend. Travis’ co-worker also met up with us. After my co-worker headed home (she had to open the next morning), Travis, his co-worker, and I headed to a dance club about a 15 minute walk through Bushwick. I had drinken three or four beers at the cafe and by the time we came upon Wilson Ave, I was drunk enough to start hollering how it was my street, how I owned it. All in all, we didn’t get home until 4 in the morning. It was like we were young or something.

Twas a Friday night, and we decided to play the part of being 20-somethings and go out on the town. So we put on our New York finest, took this awkward picture (Why is he so darn tall?!) We went out in Chelsea. First, we went to a bar called “Marie’s Crisis” which was a tiny underground, gay bar. It centers around a piano player that continuously plays showtunes while the primarily gay crowd sings happily along. I was having a blast singing “All That Jazz” from “Chicago” and “Spoonful of Sugar” from “Mary Poppins.” But Travis had never seen these movies, let alone heard the songs. And although he was enjoying the attention he was receiving from the gay men, we decided to head next door, to another bar with a live band.

I have to be honest. This picture was not taken on the 28th. There was no picture taken on the 28th. I’m actually not entirely sure what I did on that day. I imagine I woke up, applied to some jobs online, went to work, came home, ate, and went to bed. I did wake up at 5 a.m. the next morning though remembering the forgotten picture. I feel good that I made it almost half-way through the year without missing a day, but I am incredibly saddened that it had to happen. My apologies. But, look!! It’s fall in New York!!
