I went out for drinks with Casey and Kayla. Kayla was the temp working at the dentist office before I left, and Casey works at the office on Fridays. Before Kayla left the dentist office, we decided that we would have to get together for drinks to vent about our working conditions. As soon as I met Casey and she told me that she was also unhappy, I invited her along as well. It’s hard to describe what makes the office so unreasonable to work in. The only other people that can understand are the ones that have been through it as well. So we drank huge, cheap margaritas and ranted to our heart’s content. Both of them were encouraging me to quit. Working there full time is devouring my life and my sanity. I can’t just leave though, I genuinely need the money. So they both pulled out their blackberrys and started giving me their temp agency contacts. Who knows if that will amount to anything. But it was amazing to have a good rant session.

Another overreaction to weather. On Monday, they predicted half a foot of snow on Wednesday. By Tuesday night, I heard reports that it would be a foot and a half in one night. Businesses were preparing to close, people were stocking up. Travis called it at 4 inches. It snowed over night and definitely didn’t continue into the next day. A winter wonderland, indeed.

Another 11+ hour day at work. I came home ate, showered, dried my hair, hung out with the boyfriend, went to bed.

This is Racky the Raccoon.  He was given to me by my Aunt Sharon when I was 6 or so. I moved a lot as a kid, but Racky was always there for me. I didn’t take him to college for fear of him getting lost or ruined. I thought about bringing him to New York  but decided I had a boyfriend to cuddle with instead. My first couple of months in New York were difficult for me. So when I opened a package from my mother and found my Racky with a purple bow on him, I was so happy to see him. I still opt to cuddle with my boyfriend, and I don’t care if it is childish. Having him in New York is comforting.

I made a White Cheese Chicken Lasagna for dinner. It was an interesting experience since I have never made a lasagna before, and considering that, I think it went well. A bit too much Mozzarella cheese for my taste, which is almost hard for me to admit since I love cheese. Also made excellent leftovers for the rest of the week, always a bonus.

We found out about a “Beer Fest” in Brooklyn that was free, and we were on our way. It wasn’t so much a “beer fest” as it was a bar that featured some delicious unfiltered, unpasteurized beer. We stayed for a drink and watched the NY Jets game. I still don’t understand why people love football. It’s so boring to me. But I hear a lot of people say the same thing about baseball, so I don’t dwell on it. The beer was delicious, and I ran into a friend from the coffee shop on the way home. How does that happen in a city of 8 million?

In the new year, we are trying to be more adventurous in our dining destinations. We found a Mexican restaurant in Greenwich Village that has homemade guacamole, so we were there in a heartbeat! They also had a variety of flavors of margaritas. I went with the jalapeno flavor. Travis thought it was disgusting, but I thought it was amazing. I am also a huge fan of the jalapeno. I love the flavor of fresh ones. The margarita tasted like a normal margarita with fresh jalapeno juice to add a little spice. Right up my alley.

This day was ca-razy. The dentist brought in an additional receptionist, because he felt like I wasn’t doing enough of his side-projects like paying his bills and writing promotional letters. She started the day before, but when I came in Thursday morning she was freaking out. She was threatening to leave as opposed to work for such a demeaning person. I really needed someone else around and begged her to stay. When the dentist showed up, she cornered him in his office and started yelling at him about how he shows no respect and throws way too much work at her. Somehow I got brought in on all this, and after already working almost 40 hours in 3 days, I broke down in tears and told him I couldn’t do it, that I hated the job. He sent me home for a while. When I came back, I demanded paid lunch breaks, time and a half for overtime, to be treated with respect. He agreed to it all. That was when I realized that without me his practice would shut down, that I was running everything. It still hasn’t gotten much better, but at least I’m being compensated appropriately now. After that day me and the other receptionist, Krissy, went to a dive bar (shockingly in the Upper East Side), drank a lot of beer, ate a lot of pizza, and bitched to each other about what hell that place is. It felt great. I am thankful for her random presence in my life. She made me realize that I have to stick up for myself and that I have to find something else, ASAP.

Another rotten day at work. The only way to cure that is a Seinfeld marathon with the boyfriend, snuggling under the blanket my mom crocheted for me.
